OUGD405 - Research Methods

As a group we had to tell each other the 10 most interesting things we found out about the research topic we got this morning. My topic is World War 1.

We then worked out how many facts and opinions we have collectively:

Facts: 80
Opinions: 10

Research is important to gain evidence.
Look for the most appropriate method.

We then discussed the methods of research that we did this morning:

Collecting images
Listened to an audiobook

Problems Which Prevent Research
Insufficient funds - museum entry, travel expenses, journal
Timescale - not enough time, too much time
No Access/Availability - to internet, books, people
Limited visual material/written content on the subject matter
Specific clients needs can restrict breadth of research
Unreliable sources - anonymous blog posts
Event has passed/person is dead - cant take photographs, interview
Legal access - to document/go to place
People not taking questionnaires seriously
Lack of prior knowledge

How To Tackle Problems
Costs - budget, plan potential costs
Geographical restraints - email people who are there, travel google maps
Limited time - prioritise, schedule, work out best method
Dead people/events - documentaries, talk to witnesses/relatives, look at photos, read past newspaper articles, visit museums
